Meet Ian Sleeper, Bike Commuter

Home: Dover

Work: Geospatial Engineer at Terracon Consultants, Portsmouth

Hobbies: Playing guitar, riding motorcycles, cyclocross racing

Why do you commute smart?  I hate the gym; biking is the only way I get exercise on a regular basis. I like fresh air and don’t like traffic.  I feel good about my low impact on the environment.

Any obstacles you had to overcome in bike commuting? I live far away (30 miles round trip) for consistent commuting.  I used to sit in a car for an hour to get to work and now I’m actively commuting for that hour.  There’s no shower, but a wash cloth and clean clothes do the trick.

Advice to people considering bike commuting? Do it several days in a row and it gets easier.  The first day is OK, second day harder, third day, OK.  It’s OK to skip a day, don’t feel “biker’s guilt”.
